One common problem in cooling a lot of Pittsburgh homes is cooling the second floor. Attics should be properly insulated but removing the superheated attic air will help lower the second floor temperature up to 10 degrees.

Installing a roof or gable power attic fan is the best way to remove superheated air that can reach 150 degrees. Attic or gable fans are controlled by a thermostat that is set to turn on at 105 degrees and shut off at 90 degrees.

Additional benefits of a roof or gable fan are increased roof shingle life and removal of humidity. Attic fans use only 300 watts of electricity or less and last for years with very little maintenance.
