  When selecting your new  air conditioner or heat pump keep in mind that R22 freon will no longer be an option in HVAC equipment manufactured after January 1, 2010. R410a freon its replacement is better for the environment  and safer for the ozone.

  When replacing a R 22 system  all components (line set, a-coil condenser, evaporator) should be replaced. Also equipment  with a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER) of 15 and above installed in 2009 will qualify for a tax credit.

    Tank less water heaters have been around along time. They are safer and more energy efficient than a tank type water heater. For 2009 tank less water heaters  qualify for a $300.00 dollar tax credit.

    The life expectancy of a tank less water heater is almost 3 times the life of a tank type water heater. We recommend existing tank less waters be be cleaned with a biodegradable solution to remove any scale, lime or rust build up.

One example is the use of a programmable thermostat. For every degree you cut back the temperature you reduce your heating and cooling costs 1%. Good thermostats have large backlit displays that can be configured to cycle properly with the type of system you have (heat pump gas furnace electric heat steam heat hot water heat) and can be put in the auto change over mode to switch between heating and cooling automatically. This comes in handy in the spring and the fall.

Also, many thermostats have upper and lower limits to prevent children and others from setting the temperature to high or to low wasting money and resources. Dual fuel thermostats allow the easy installation of a gas furnace and a heat pump. This will allow for multiple stages of heating and cooling. This set up is extremely efficient and is the wave of the future.
